Social Media Policy on Community Engagement

1. Welcome Message

We invite community members to engage with us on social media—share thoughts, ask questions, and participate respectfully.

2. Monitoring & Response Time

Our staff monitors social media during our seasonal hours of operation from mid-June to mid- October, Wednesday to Sunday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  While we strive to reply promptly, responses may take up to 48–72 hours depending on volume of visitors and staffing.

3. Your Responsibility

By interacting with our social media channels, you agree to:

  • Respect others—even in disagreement
  • Stay relevant to the topic of the post
  • Avoid posting ads, campaign content, or spam
  • Refrain from sharing personal identifying information
  • Follow our museum’s mission and values

4. What Is Not Allowed

Comments or posts that include any of the following will be removed:

  • Harassment, hate speech, threats, bullying, abusive or defamatory language
  • Discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, nationality
  • Spam, advertising, commercial promotion, self-promotion
  • Off-topic, irrelevant, or unintelligible content
  • Posts with personal or confidential information about anyone
  • Copyrighted or uncredited content without permission
  • False or misleading information

5. Moderation Actions

We reserve the right to:

  • Hide or delete comments/posts that violate the guidelines
  • Block or ban users for repeated violations
  • Report comments to authorities if required by law

  • Views expressed by community members are their own and not those of the museum
  • These guidelines may be updated periodically; please check back for the latest version

Fun Facts

The Margaree Lake Ainslie Watershed is designated a Canadian Heritage River, one of only 42 such rivers across the country. The Shelburne River is the only other Heritage River in Nova Scotia.
